SLAVF Welcomes First Working Day

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) HQ at Kosgama marked the dawn of the New Year and the first working day (January 3) during a formal ceremony giving priority to state allegiance oath, flag hoisting, recital of the national anthem and the Army song, reading of the Army Commander’s message, etc.

The day’s formalities, presided by Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commandant, SLAVF began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Commandant and the SLAVF flag by the Deputy Commandant, SLAVF, Major General Christy Jayasinghe. It followed the recital of the National Anthem and the Army Song. The ceremony afterwards commemorated the memory of fallen War Heroes by observing a two-minute silence before the state allegiance oath was read out.

Afterwards, the troops listened to the message sent by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva on account of the dawn of the New Year.

Similarly, the SLAVF Commandant addressing the troops emphasized on the importance of preserving the dignity and reputation of the Sri Lanka Army while performing responsibilities to the best of their ability in order to safeguard the interests of the motherland. The Senior Officer also highlighted the commitment of everyone to reach desired objectives of the country by providing a very reliable service during assignments.

To coincide with the day’s arrangements, an awareness programme on prevention from COVID - 19 was also conducted at the premises. Senior officers, Other Ranks and civil staffers participated in the occasion.
