SLAVF Troops at Kosgama Salute Their Outgoing Commandant

The outgoing Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda relinquished the office of the Commandant of the SLAVF on Tuesday (7). The formalities, adhering to strict health guidelines, observed at the Headquarters premises in keeping with military traditions, commenced with his reviewing of the Guard Turnout, held in his honour as he entered the compound.

The Senior Officer was received by Inspector of Training at the SLAVF Brigadier Nihal Samarawickrama on the day's protagonist's arrival in the camp premises.

The Senior Officer in his brief talk to the troops recalled how SL Volunteer Force members continue to play leading roles in the performance of professional and security roles as the foremost alternative establishment to the regular force of the Army. Further, the outgoing Commandant highlighted the importance of the SLAVF’s sustenance in future as a vibrant organization, too.

He also expressed gratitude to all ranks, members and civil staff for the support extended to him during his tenure and paid tribute to the memory of fallen SLAVF war heroes in a moving gesture.

Major General Christy Jayasingha, Deputy Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force awarded a memento to the outgoing Commandant and wished him good luck in his new appointment as the Deputy Chief of Staff.

Senior Officers, including Staff Officers and other ranks of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force attended the brief event.
