Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP assumed duties as the new Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), amidst religious blessings and military formalities, conducted at the SLAVF premises at Kosgama on Friday (17 August 2023).
The day's Chief Guest on arrival was warmly welcomed by Major General M.T.K.R Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF, together with the Principal Staff Officer, Coordinating Officer - Sri Lanka Rifle Corps and Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps and the Commanding Officer of the Headquarters Battalion of the SLAVF.
In accordance with long-lasting military traditions, a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Sri Lanka National Guard saluted the incoming SLAVF Commandant as the first item on the day’s programme.
After he arrived at his new office premises, he placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious time amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha who chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ and blessed the new office.
Afterwards, the new Commandant was invited to plant a Mango sapling in the compound and added memories to his inauguration of the office before he attended an all rank tea with Officers and Other Ranks in the SLAVF. Finally, his troop address marked the end of the day’s agenda.
Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP succeeded Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc who just retired from the Army.
Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, prior to this appointment served as the Commander, Security Forces-West.
