SLAVF HQ Troops Salute Their Former Commandant

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) HQ at Kosgama on Monday (27) presented military honours to its former Commandant, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, incumbent Chief of Staff as a formality over his relinquishment of office at the SLAVF.

Principal Staff Officer at SLAVF, Brigadier Kithsiri Liyanage and Brigadier Administration, SLAVF, Brigadier Christi Jayasinghe received the day’s Chief Guest Major General Jagath Gunawardena on arrival at the SLAVF main gate before he was greeted in a Guard Turn Out.

After a while, he was invited to the “Rendezvous” ground to receive the salute of the Guard of Honour, accorded on his behalf by elegantly-dressed SLAVF troops. After reviewing the parade, the day’s Chief Guest received the salute from a special dais as the climax of the day’s ceremony.

As one more segment of the day’s itinerary, Major General Jagath Gunawardena left memories in the premises by planting a sapling in the premises. The day’s programme culminated with an all rank tea.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion and extended their best wishes on his new office while thankfully acknowledging his monumental contribution to the growth of the SLAVF during his tenure.
