The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) HQ felicitated and appreciated the services of forty-four retired SLAVF Officers of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during a ceremony, held at the SLAVF HQ on Wednesday (6 December).
The felicitation ceremony that extolled their notable service towards the Army with the motto of “Never be Unprepared” was headed by Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, the Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest, together with the Deputy Commandant SLAVF, Major General M.T.K.R Silva KSP who warmly received the day's Chief Guest for the occasion.
A brief presentation on all those 44 retired NCC Officers after opening remarks set the stage ready for appreciation of their dedicated services. To honour all of them, each of them was called to the stage before a memento plus a certificate of appreciation was presented by the day's Chief Guest, Major General U.D Wijesekera. Entertaining dancing features, presented by troops of the Directorate of Performing Arts added colour and amusement to the occasion.
During closing remarks, the Commandant addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the NCC role and praised their professional service as teachers during both peacetime and war. Further, he stated that those NCC Officers have rendered a yeoman service to the motherland as "silent contributors" of the Army and expressed his best wishes to each of them.
Subsequently, a brief informative awareness address, delivered by Colonel Welfare at SLAVF HQ explained the series of welfare benefits, available to them upon retirement. The assortment of benefits on 'Suwasahana' medical package and the SLAVF insurance package were highlighted during the speech.
Director, National Cadet Corps, Senior Officers and Officers who are serving the SLAVF Headquarters were associated with the day's ceremony.
