The three-day long Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Athletic Meet - 2023 concluded on Thursday (21 Sept) at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama where more than 350 athletes vied in 24 athletic events creating new SLAVF records.
Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commandant of SLAVF graced the closing and awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest and gave away trophies and certificates to the achievers.
During the tournament, athletes displayed excellent sports skills while achieving new eleven SLAVF athletic records. In addition, band displays and cultural troupes added more glamour and colour to the closing ceremony.
Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Commander, Army Logistic Command, Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General M.T.K.R Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Officers, Officers, representatives of National Athletic Federation and a large crowd of Other Ranks also gathered to witness the exciting tournament and the awarding ceremony.
The SLAVF Tug of War tournament, coincident with the SLAVF Athletic Meet also continued during 6 – 07 September 2023 at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters premises at Panagoda.
