SLASC Boxers Emerge Champions

THE Inter Regimental Boxing Meet of the Army was got underway at the Panagoda Army Cantonment gymnasium Friday (20) evening where a number of men and women’s events took place.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who himself is a boxer and a referee recognized at international panels was the chief guest for the occasion. Brigadier G.R.S. Dias, the President Sri Lanka Army Boxing Committee received the Army Commander on his arrival. Sri Lanka Army Services Corps emerged champions for the year 2009 scoring 36 points while the rival Gamunu Watch boxers ended up as runners-up scoring 22 points.

Best boxer for men’s events was Private Chandana Kumara G.G.D of SLASC and best female boxer was Private Gunawardana N.D.S of 5 SLAWC. Best looser for men’s events was Recruit Kiriella P.A.C.S of GW and best looser in female events was Private Salgado M.P.K of 2 SLAWC.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya congratulated the wining teams and gave away trophies and shields to the winners.

Winners of heavy weight event was Gunner Jayaweera P.N.N of SLA.

Winners of light heavy weight event was L/Cpl Mudushanka L.D of GW.

Winners of middle weight event was Private Chandra Kumara A.P.G of SLASC.

Winners of welter weight event was Cpl De Silva S.G.C of GW.

Winners of light weight event was Private Liyanage L.A.T.L.M of SLASC.

Winners of light welter weight event was Private Jayalath A.P.C.A of SLAOC.

Winners of feather weight event was Private Weerakkodi W.R.T of SLASC.

Winner of bantam weight event was Rifleman Pushpakumara K.G of SLASR.

Winner of fly weight event was Private Chandana Kumara G.G.D of SLASC.

Winner of light fly weight event was Private Gunasekara D.A.M of SLASC.
