The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) marked its 62nd anniversary and the Regimental Day with a series of events beginning on Oct 14, 2011 at its Headquarters.
It had a parade, an All Ranks tea party and a lunch on the same day (14), followed by a get-together with all SLAOC retired and serving officers.
The climax of the commemoration took place on Friday (21) night when the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya for the first time in SLAOC history graced the occasion as Chief Guest and joined the fellowship dinner, the same night.
It was the first visit by an incumbent Commander for an SLAOC anniversary.
Earlier in the week, they had an alms-giving Pinkama to bestow merits on SLAOC War Heroes and bless the Regiment. It also organized a separate meeting for the family members of fallen War Heroes in order to resolve their pressing issues, if any.
The visiting Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was welcomed by the Colonel Commandant Brigadier M. Z. R. Sallay.
