SLAC Troops at Kalubowila &;amp; Gemunu Watch 'Junior Highlanders' Serve Food


Island-wide Army troops and Seva Vanitha clubs in the Army actively contributed to the conduct of the just-concluded Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi celebrations and Vesak Full Moon Poya through varieties of programmes.

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (10 Support) Regiment, inviting relatives of married and unmarried soldiers, organized a special Bodhi Pooja pinkama at Kalubowila Sri Sunandarama temple.

The religious programme, headed by Ven Maussagolle Lankananda Nayaka Thero, Incumbent was attended by six Buddhist monks. A large gathering attended the event.

Meanwhile, the same troops, including unit officers and soldiers served cooked manioc to the Vesak sightseers on account of Vesak commemoration. The Dansela conducted in Kalubowila area drew a large gathering of visitors.

In the meantime, Gemunu Watch children’s club, ‘Junior Highlanders’ on account of Vesak, offered free ice-cream to Vesak sightseers, near the children’s park at Havelock Town.

Nearly some 3000 people enjoyed the treat offered by those youngsters under coordination done by Gemunu Watch Regiment Seva Vanitha unit. Many Seva Vanitha club members including its chairperson supported the project.
