SLAC & Its Seva Vanitha Ladies Put Up New House

Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Regimental Headquarters and the SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit (SLAC-SVU) jointly put up a new house for a Lance Corporal of the 7 SLAC whose old house in Welioya was destroyed by wild elephants in the year 2017.

The story of the soldier, a father of 9 children, of whom 3 have already attained monkhood appeared in media and caught the attention of the SLAC Headquarters and the SLAC-SVU before preparations were made to construct a new house at a cost of Rs 1.45 million, made available by the SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit to the SLAC Headquarters.

Fellow SLAC soldiers considering the pathetic plight of his existing house completely changed and instead erected a new house which was opened on Sunday (24) during a simple ceremony.

In addition, a new dining table plus 6 chairs to the value of Rs 35,000/= and several verandah chairs, worth about Rs 25,000/= along with a stock of electric appliances were also gifted during the house warming ceremony.

At the same occasion, all Army personnel of the 7 (V) SLAC who built the new house were also presented symbolic gifts.

Deputy SLAC Centre Commandant, Senior SLAC Officers, together with the day’s Chief Guest, Mrs Shiromi Liyanage, Chairperson, SLAC-SVU, executive members of the SLAC-SVU, Ms Priyanthi Suriyabandara, Ms Ruchirani Wijedasa and several invitees attended the house-warming ceremony.
