SLAASC Hosts Inter-Regiment Swim Competition

The 4th Inter Regiment 2-mile Open Water Swimming Championship was held on Friday (16 Feb) at Mount Lavinia beach patch. Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff, graced the event as the chief guest.

Under the guidance of Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, the Provost Marshal and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Aquatic Sports Committee (SLAASC), the event was organized by SLAASC with the participation of 258 swimmers representing 17 Regiments competing for titles.

The chief guest along with Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Officers and Mrs Thilomi Nanayakara, Resident Manager of Hotel Mount Lavinia joined to present awards and certificates to the achievers.

A noteworthy moment occurred when Staff Sergeant P.P. Ajith Kumara of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, a War Hero who had one of his legs amputated, completed the event excellently, earning high commendation during the awarding ceremony.

The Chairman of SLAASC delivered the vote of thanks and presented a special memento to the Deputy Chief of Staff appreciating his presence. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the event.

Overall Championship (Men) - Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (61 Points)

Overall Championship (Women) - 3 Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (56 Points)

Overall Runner-up (Men) - Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (49 Points)

Overall Runner-up (Women) - 1 Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (49 Points)

Best Individual Swimmer (Men) - Craftsman R.J.A Karunanayaka of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

Best Individual Swimmer (Women) - Private A.M.P.P Shanthi of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps

Highest Aggregated Point Challenge Cup - Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (Joint Champions)
