SIO Refresher Course Begins at SFHQ-W

The Special Infantry Operations (SIO), Refresher Course No - 2 of 20l7 for qualified officers and soldiers of the 56, 61 and 62 Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters - (Wanni) commenced at the Battalion Training School, Kalyanipura on Wednesday (8).

This 30- day long Refresher Course was initiated on the directions of the Commander, Security Forces -Wanni (SF-W) Major General Ruwan Kulatunga.

The aim of this timely move was to refresh the knowledge of selected personnel, already qualified in Special Infantry Operations who had performed a predominant role during the Humanitarian Operations before May 2009.

Recording of the lessons learnt through the conduct of case studies and sharing of experiences among the participants are among other objectives, included in this Refresher Course.

A total of 4 officers and 32 other rankers of the 26 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), 11 Gemunu Watch (GW) and 27 Gajaba Regiment (GR) took part in the opening session of the Course.

This Refresher Course was organized by the 62 Division under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 62 Division, Major General B.H.M.A Wijesinghe.

The officer Instructors were provided to the course by respective Divisions under command to the SFHQ-W on the instructions of the Commander, SF-W.

Major General Ruwan Kulatunga, Commander, SF-W, graced the opening ceremony at the invitation of the GOC, 62 Division and delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the need to refresh the knowledge on battle craft to be ready for any eventuality.

Brigade Commanders in 621 and 622 Brigades, Commanding Officers and officers and soldiers from respective Brigades and Battalions also participated at the inaugural occasion.
