Sinhala, Tamil & Muslim Cricket Clubs with Security Forces & Policemen Play Cricket in East

223 and 222 Infantry Brigades of the 22 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - East, aimed at promoting harmony and reconciliation among multi-ethnic people in the region organized two separate cricket tournaments at Valaththottam playground and Sampur public play ground during 25 – 27 November, for which tri service, Police and Civil Security Department (CSD) cricketers too joined.

Accordingly, 8 teams representing the Army, Civil Security Department, Sinhala and Tamil Sports Clubs of the area competed in the tournament, organized by the 222 Infantry Brigade. CSD cricket team at Serunuwara carried away the Championship while the Kaveri Sports club in Soornagar was the runner-up. The Commander 222 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and cricket fans in the area thronged there to witness the finals and the awarding ceremony of the 222 Infantry Brigade Cricket Tournament.

Meanwhile,24 teams representing Army, Navy, Police, Tamil and Muslim Sports Clubs vied in the tournament, organized by the 223 Infantry Brigade on Sunday (27) at Sampur Public Stadium. The 'Sampur Star A" team after a close tussle won the Championship pushing Muttur Real Star to be the runner-up in the tournament.

The General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General Sanath Aluvihare graced the final awarding ceremony of the cricket tournament as the Chief Guest, together with the Commander 223 Infantry Brigade, Commandant at Vidura Naval Training School, Commanding Officer of Sri Lanka Naval Base Perakumba, Senior Superintendent of Police in Trincomalee Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians of the area participated in the final awarding ceremony and watched the finals.
