Sinha Regiment War Heroes Get Their Recognition in Ambepussa Ceremony

The remainder of gallantry medals, Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) was pinned on the recipients on Saturday (19) during a fitting ceremony, held at SLSR Regimental Headquarters, Ambepussa.

Major General Boniface Perera, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR as the Chief Guest presided the investiture ceremony at Ambepussa where a total of 982 medals were awarded to SLSR War Heroes in recognition of their unmatched services to the nation during the humanitarian operations before May 2009.

Brigadier B.A.L Rathnayaka, SLSR Centre Commandant received the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the premises before he was conducted to the auditorium in the premises.

Recital of the SLSR Regimental Song and observance of a two-minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes kicked off the day’s programme.

During the first phase, 109 of Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) medals were awarded to those War Heroes in recognition of their allied or individual acts of heroism and bravery in the face of the enemy. The medal is also known as the combat gallantry medal.

Then, began the award of remaining 873 Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) medals to the SLSR laureates. It also recognizes individual and associated acts of heroism in facing the enemy and is also regarded as the combat excellence medal.

Chief Guest at the end of the medal awarding ceremony addressed the gathering and extended his appreciation and best wishes.

The patriotic song Ratnadeepa Janma Bhoomi reverberated before the formal culmination of the day’s event was announced. The recital of the national anthem drew the ceremony to a close.

Several senior officers, recipients of laurels, next-of-kin of fallen War Heroes, officers and other ranks witnessed the medal ceremony.
