Silver Medalists in ‘London Paralympics’ & ‘Japan Design & Invention Expo’ Commended

Two Army soldiers, Sergeant Dinesh Priyantha Herath of 3 Gajaba Regiment (GR) and Corporal D.M.C Dissanayake of 2 Military Intelligence Corps (MIC), who made the Army and the country proud by winning Silver medals respectively in London Paralympics - 2017 and in Tokyo-based ‘Japan Design & Invention Expo’ (JDIE), came in for special praise of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake when both of them were invited to the Commander’s office this afternoon (17).

The Army Chief, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake had a close interaction with both of them and praised their achievements in reputed international events and inquired into the competitiveness that prevailed in separate events.

Before their departure, the Commander gifted them two symbolic mementos as tokens of appreciation.

Major General Dampath Fernando, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General, Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe, Director Army Sports, Brigadier Adeepa Thilakarathne, Brigade Commander, 552 Brigade and Commanding Officer 2 (V) MIC were present during the interaction with the Commander of the Army.

The retired Sergeant Dinesh Priyantha Herath of 3 Gajaba Regiment (GR) won a Silver medal in the most recent London Paralympics - 2017 in Men’s Javelin Throw - F46 event.

Corporal D.M.C Dissanayake’s innovative and creative product ‘Novel Flood Shield for Heavy Equipment’ showcased in Tokyo’s ‘Japan Design & Invention Expo’ (JDIE) during 4-6 August won a Silver medal under the Technical Category beating more than hundreds of innovations.
