Sil Campaign &;amp; Pirith Chanting Bless Army's Forward March

The all-night Pirith chanting ceremony that followed a mammoth Sil observance campaign at Panagoda Bodhirajaramaya (Army temple) invoked blessings on the Army’s forward-march and its 62nd Anniversary on Friday (7).

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army attended the inaugural phase of the Pirith chanting Friday (7) evening at the invitation of the Army Buddhist Association, in the company of a large gathering of senior officers and other ranks, all clad in pure white.

In conformity with Buddhist traditions, the Commander as Chief Guest offered a tray of betel symbolically to members of the Maha Sangha and respectfully invited them to commence chanting until the following morning (8) while spreading blessings on the Army, country and the world at large.

A brief Anusasanaa (oration) made by a senior monk on the occasion reminded the gathering of the importance of having an army of high calibre for the benefit of the country and its onward march at all times.

Senior officers, Chairman, Army Buddhist Association, spouses and a large gathering of soldiers attended the religious ceremony.
