The chanting of ‘Rathana Suthra’ in order to seek divine intervention to end the COVID-19 pandemic, got underway at Kilinochchi Lumbini Temple on Sunday (8) in parallel with the island-wide ‘Rathana Suthra’ Chanting programme that has been requested by the office of Hon Prime Minister and Minister of Buddha Sasana & Religious Affairs Hon Mahinda Rajapaksa.
It was organized on the direction of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda and under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Major General Sujeewa Senarathyapa. The Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi symbolically offered the traditional tray of betel to the Maha Sangha inviting them to begin Pirith chanting.
Chief Incumbent at Sri Sugatha Viharaya Mankulam, Ven Hingurakande Sumana Thero and several members of the Maha Sangha commenced the chanting after an ‘Anushasana’. General Officers Commanding of 65 and 66 Infantry Divisions, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area-Kilinochchi, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks in under command formations, also participated in this religious event, sticking to health precautions and guidelines.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Major General Jagath Rathnayake, troops under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 59 Division, Brigadier Manoj Lamahewa and Brigadier Wasantha Palamkumbura, Commander, 593 Brigade extended their support to the chanting at Kokilai Sri Sambhodi temple on the same day (8). The Commander, Security Forces - MLT symbolically offered the traditional tray of betel to the Maha Sangha inviting them to begin Pirith chanting.

Similarly, troops of the 54 Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Priyantha Perera organized the ‘Rathana Suthra’ chanting at the historic Sri Mathota Rajamaha Viharaya Temple in Mannar on Sunday (8). Major General Indrajith Bandara, GOC, 54 Division was there to listen to the chanting, meant to invoke blessings on the country to overcome COVID-19 pandemic.
Commander, Security Force HQ-Wanni participated in the inaugural event as the Chief Guest.
