SFHQs Launch 'Dasawarshabhisheka’ Events & Join Peace Walks

Troops attached to the island-wide Security Force Headquarters (SFHQs), Divisions, Brigades, Training Schools, Forward Maintenance Area offices and formations in their hundreds joined the 'Dasawarshabisheka' Walk for Peace that coincided with the ongoing National War Heroes' commemoration projects on Tuesday (22) morning.

SFHQ-West troops began their walk from the Maharagama President's college premises and ended at Pannipitiya Dharmapala College area. The SFHQ-West Walk had been organized on the directions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander SFHQ-West and it was attended by Brigadier Indrajith Kandanarachchi, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Uditha Bandara, Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Cristy Jayasinghe, Colonel Coord and number of Senior Officers of the SFHQ-West.

Meanwhile, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera, offering floral tributes at the War Heroes’ monument in the Wanni Headquarters premises participated in ceremonies on Monday (20).

He hoisted the flag of the Security Forces - Wanni and observed a two minute-silence in remembrance of fallen Heroes in front of the main office complex. Subsequently, the message of the Commander of the Army was read out to all.

Thereafter, members of the Security Forces - Wanni visited Mother Theresa’s Home for Adults at Pampeimadu to provide medical assistance and entertain all inmates to a sumptuous lunch. Troops of the SFHQ - Wanni organised a Shramadana campaign to clean the premises of this Elderly Home on Friday (17) in connection with the War Heroes’ commemoration.

In the meantime, the Peace Walk in Vavuniya got underway under the close supervision of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera on Wednesday (22). It began at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) main entrance and concluded at Bodhidhaksinaramaya temple - Vavuniya. 300 plus Officers and of Other Rankers of the SFHQ-W and under command establishments contributed to this Peace Walk.

Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Harendra Ranasinghe, Brigadier Administration and Quartering, Colonel Indu Samarakoon along with all Officers and Other Ranks of SFHQ - Wanni were present at commemorative programmes.

In the meantime, the Peace Walk in Mullaittivu got underway under the close supervision of the Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru. It began at the SFHQ-MLT and concluded at Mullaittivu town. 143 Officers and 772 of Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu attended this marching parade.

In addition, a special commemorative programme was held in front of the Mulliwaikkal War Heroes monument by lighting coconut oil lamps on Sunday (19).

Senior Officers belong to under command establishment of Security Forces - Mullaittivu gathered at the commemorative ceremony.

Meanwhile, troops of Kilinochchi also conducted the commemorative Peace Walk on Wednesday (22) beginning from Karadippokku junction to Killinochchi Monument.

This event was organized under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, Major General G.V Ravipriya and All Divisional Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers and Officers attended the march along with the troops. Further, huge crowd rushed and took positions along the road to witness the march.

Likewise, in remembrance of fallen War Heroes of the Tri Forces and the Police, a commemoration ceremony was organized by the Northern Governor’s Office and Ranaviru Seva Authority in coordination with Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Monday (20) in Palaly. Religious Dignitaries of Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian extended their blessings on the Army and transferred merits on fallen War Heroes. The event was held at the Palaly War Heroes’ Monument, headed by Major General Darshana Hettiarrachahi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.

Governor of Northern Province, Hon. Dr Suren Raghavan as the Chief Guest of the event addressed the gathering in the commemoration ceremony. The Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr S Balachandran, Chief Secretary - Northern Province, Mr A Pathinathan, District Secretary - Jaffna, Mr N Vethanayahan, District Secretary - Kilinochchi, Mr Sudharam Arumanayagam, District Secretary - Mullaittivu, Mrs Rupawathi Ketheeswaran, District Secretary - Mannar, Mr S Mohanrasa, Additional District Secretary - Vavuniya, Mr Thiresh Kumar, Commander, Security Forces - Killinochchi, Major General G.V Ravipriya, Representative of Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Brigadier W.D.C.K Costa, Deputy Commander of Northern Naval Area, Commodore S.D Senarathne, Commanding Officer, Sri Lanka Air Force Station - Palaly, Group Captain S.D Jayaweera and Deputy Inspector General of Police - Jaffna, Mr M.B Rajitha Sri Daminda laid floral tributes to the monument of fallen War Heroes.

A number of invitees representing the key government institutions in the Northern Province, Senior Military and Police Personnel serving in the Northern Province attended the commemoration ceremony.

Subsequently, Security Forces - Jaffna too joined the island-wide ‘Dasawarshabhisheka’ Walk for Peace on Wednesday (22) with the participation of Jaffna Commander.

More than thousand troops of under command establishments of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna marched on the way up to Duraiappa Stadium to end the proceedings.

Similarly, troops of Security Forces - Central also joined their hands together with the commemoration of the decade of peace by conducting their Peace Walk on Wednesday (22) in Kandy town.

96 Officers and 630 Other Ranks of 11 Division, 12 Division, Brigades, Training Schools and Units joined this parade.

This was organized by the General Officer Commanding, 11 Division under the supervision of the Commander, Security Forces - Central, Major General Laksiri Waduge.

Brigadier S.M.S.P.B Samarakoon, Brigadier General Staff of the Security Forces - Central, Brigade Commanders of 111,121,122 Brigades and numbers of Senior Officers took part in the arrangement.

Subsequently, Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) too joined the island-wide commemorative ceremonies by conducting their own Peace Walk on account of the War Heroes’ commemoration.

It started from Thopawewa Central College premises and ended at Deepauyana, Polonnaruwa with the participation of 153 Officers and 1403 Other Rankers under command to SFHQ-E.

Major General Aruna Jayasekera, Commander, Security Forces - East gave directions in this connection.

The Walk got underway under the supervision of Major General Manoj Mudannayake, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East.

Meanwhile, troops serving the 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) detachment in the Elephant Pass (Alimankada) general area launched a blood donation programme to coincide with the National War Heroes’ day.
