SFHQ - Mullaittivu-Organized Inter-Civil Club Soccer Tournament Attracts Youths

The finals of the Inter-Civil club Soccer Tournament, organized by the 68 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) got underway at Puththukuddirippu Divisional Secretariat grounds in Mullaittivu amidst a large gathering of football fans and youths on Sunday (24).

Major General Rasika Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division supervised the conduct of the tournament on the instructions of Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT).

The preliminary rounds competed by 20 teams from Mullaittivu area were held during 3-12 February. St Anthony’s Sports Club, Iranapalei and Alei Osei Sports Club, Udduppukulam played in the finals. However, Iranapalei St Anthony’s Sports Club won the match with a score 1-0 and secured the Security Forces championship trophy.

The Alei Osei Sports Club in Udduppukulam received the 68 Division Challenge Trophy for the first runners-up slot. Mr A Aroshan of the Iranapalei St Anthony’s Sports Club, named as the Best Player of the tournament was awarded Lance Corporal Jagath Kumara Memorial Trophy. The Best Defender award went to Mr Kantharooban of the Alei Osei Sports Club in Udduppukulam. Mr A.S Amojeethan of the Iranapalei St Anthony’s Sports Club was awarded the Best Goal Keeper prize in the tournament.

In addition, 8 pairs of football shoes to the winning team along with cash awards of Rs 25,000/=, Rs 20,000/= and Rs 15,000/= respectively to all achievers were presented to the winners during the prize awarding ceremony. Further, all teams participating were awarded a football each as an incentive.

68 Division with the help of donors and well-wishers coordinated the supply of all trophies, sport-dresses, prizes and sports equipment required for the tournament.

Mr S Pradeepan, Divisional Secretary for Puththukuddirippu, General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and a few other invitees were among the distinguished guests who watched the final encounters.
