The Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) providing the best of cooperation to the Army HQ - initiated house construction project for homeless civilians took a mammoth step forward and completed the construction of four new houses for civilians in different areas and vested them in the beneficiaries, thanks to the sponsorships, extended by philanthropists in the South. The project coincided with the 72nd Army Anniversary that fell on 10 October.
The mega project that got underway in the 64 Division area as instructed by Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu saw its fruition on Tuesday (12) during separate simple warming ceremonies where the Commander, MLT graced as the Chief Guest.
The new house, meant for Mrs Ramachandran Madiwadini of Kiranamadu, Mandakandal in the 54 Mandakandal Grama Seva Division was sponsored jointly by Buddhist monks, Ven Galgamuwa Shanthbodhi Thera and Ven Piliyandala Amithagosha Thera at a cost of Rs 4 lakhs. 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 641 Brigade in Mandakandal area volunteered their technical expertise and manpower considering the importance of this project.
The financial donation of Mr Don Lakshman Jayamaha and Ms Sharmani Lakshman from Colombo to the value of Rs 6,50,000/= meanwhile enabled troops of the 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment in the 642 Brigade to erect a new house for one Mr Vigneshwaran in Mankulam, resident in the Manwalapaddamurippu Grama Seva Division.
The same donors, Mr Don Lakshman Jayamaha and Ms Sharmani Lakshman again spending Rs 450,000/= wanted the same 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops in the 642 Brigade build a new home for Mr R Chandra Kumar in Oddusudan, residing in the 61 Oddusuddan Grama Seva Division.
Similarly, the sponsorship provided by the philanthropist, Ms Dilrukshi Rajapaksa of the US to the value of Rs 400, 000, appreciative of the troops’ contribution to the cause, enabled 13 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 643 Brigade to erect a new home to Mrs Rasarthiram Rajeshwari, living in the 55 Muthiyankaddukulam Grama Seva Division.
All those four houses, built on an initiative of the SFHQ-MLT largely used locally-made timber, bricks and other hardware and all 4 houses received some furniture too at the cost of some donors and well-wishers.
In the meantime, on the same day (12), Major General Sisira Pilapitiya inaugurated the function of a water purification machine in Muthiyankaddu area for the benefit of troops and residents living in Muthiyankaddukulam GN Division area. It cost Rs 100,000 for the Army.
Those housing projects were effectively performed by respective troops on the directions of Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, Commander Security Forces –Mullaittivu and Major General U.R Weerakoon, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division.
The Commander 641 Brigade, Brigadier D.P.J.C Jayawardena, Commander 642 Colonel K.T.P de Silva, Lieutenant Colonel C.T Athuldoraarachchi, Commanding Officer, 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel A.B.S Athukorala, 23 Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment and Major S.L Thushara, Commanding Officer, 13 Sri Lanka National Guard with their troops completed those projects with enthusiasm.
