SFHQ-KLN Troops & Under Command Formations Join ‘Deepavali’ Celebrations

Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on account of ‘Deepavali’ festival of the Hindus conducted many projects in areas of its responsibility during 26 - 27 October 2019.

Troops of the 57 Division organized a Shramadana programme to clean the Kilinochchi Kandasami Kovil premises during 26-27 October under the guidelines, given by Major Genera Pradeep De Silva, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division with the aim of strengthening the reconciliation efforts between the military and civilians in the area. 30 soldiers of the 57 Division participated in the Shramadana project.

Later, troops assisted the conduct of religious observances at the Division Headquarter premises Kilinochchi on Sunday (27) evening on account of the festival. The Kurukkals of Kandasami Kovil in Kilinochchi performed those religious observances. General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Brigade Commanders, other Senior Officers and more than 200 troops under command to the 57 Division participated in the religious event.

After the religious programme, troops organized another event to distribute school accessories for needy school children in the area. During the programme 150 gift parcels were distributed among 150 school children who participated in the Pooja at the 57 Division. The financial assistance for the donations was extended by troops in under command Brigades.

Meanwhile, with the blessings of Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi and under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Major General Wasantha Kumarapperuma, troops of the 65 Division organized a series of events to celebrate the Diwali Festival on Sunday (27).

Meanwhile, troops of 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment under the supervision of Colonel Chamath Warakagoda, Commander, 651 Brigade provided 50 vegetarian food packs for distribution among devotees who attend the Diwali festival at Mulankavil Pullayar Kovil. Similarly, troops of 19 Sri Lanka Light Infantry distributed 100 lunch packets among the devotees who attended the Deepavali festival observances at Vellankulam Muththuamman Kovil.

Meanwhile, under the supervision of the Commander, 652 Brigade, Colonel W.L.A.C Perera, troops of 7 Sri Lanka National Guard organized an alms-giving programme at Amman Kovil at Arogyapuram on Deepavali festival day. Troops of 20 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment meanwhile played a friendly cricket match with Anavilandankulam Sports Club at 20 (V) VIR playground. 31 Army personnel and 20 civilians played in the tournament.

Under the supervision of the Commander, 571 Brigade, Colonel D.K.S.K Dolage, troops of 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry organized a soft drink ‘Dansela’ in front of the camp on Sunday (27). Troops of 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment meanwhile treated devotees to tea and biscuits at the Muthumari Paththini Amman Kovil premises at Malayalapuram.

Under the supervision of the Commander, 572 Brigade, Colonel D.M.P.P Dasanayaka, troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment organized a Kovil Pooja at Chitti Vinayagar Kovil at Mankulam. Under the supervision of the Commander, 573 Brigade, Colonel U.L.J.S Perera, troops of 1 Sri Lanka Sinhha Regiment participated in a Kovil Pooja at Naagathamviran Kovil and organized a ‘Dansela’ for devotees who participated in the event.
