Distribution of 200 cows, bought and handed over by Buddhists, resident in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong among civilians in Kilinochchi areas, took place at the Harmony Centre, Kilinochchi on Monday (16) during a ceremony, presided by Ven Dr Omalpe Sobitha Thero, Chairman, Sri Bodhi Raja Foundation.
Buddhist monks and representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong at the invitation of Ven Dr Omalpe Sobitha Thero, together with a few foreign TV channels have sponsored the purchase of 200 cattle and milking cows for the benefit of Kilinochchi low income group families.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) who had facilitated the project, attended the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest, along with 65, 66 and 57 Divisional Commanders.
Towards the end of the cattle distribution, those foreign visitors gave away more than 150 gift parcels to school children who had been invited to the occasion. Those parcels contained school accessories and other essentials.
Ven Hai Thaun of Thailand led the delegation from those countries, following coordination made by Ven Sobitha Thero.
A large gathering of civilians flocked there to witness the event.
