Targetting the production of 3600 metric tons of organic fertilizer for the Maha Season-2021 to be in line with the national production drive of organic fertilizer, the Security Force HQ-Jaffna on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army commenced a mass scale production inside the Palaly Army Farm area on Sunday (4) in close consultation with horticulturalists.
Major General Priyantha Perera - Commander Security Forces - Jaffna inaugurated the project with the objective of producing some 3600 metric tons of organic fertilizer for use during the forthcoming Maha Season. The expertise guidance to the project was generously imparted to Army personnel by Messrs Kolitha Wickramasinghe and Jagath Somathunge who had a few rounds of discussions with the Jaffna Commander and others before the project was launched.
Members of the Security Forces - Jaffna upon completion of their project have planned to conduct educative awareness sessions for the farming community in the peninsula on the importance of organic farming and long-term effects of such practices. Several General Officers Commanding in Divisions were also present during the inaugural event.
