Free distribution of 100 cattle among low-income group families in Jaffna took place on Il Full Moon Poya Day (6) during a simple ceremony, close to the Jaffna library.
Those cattle, rescued from the slaughter house by Ven Dr Omalpe Sobhitha Thero, Chairman, Sri Bodhiraja Padanama, Embilipitiya, according to the donor, would help improve living standards of those recipients while simultaneously strengthening bonds of friendship between the north and the south.
Coordination roles of the distribution and selection of the most deserving were conducted by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J).
Ven Dr Omalpe Sobhitha Thero, Hindu and Islamic religious leaders from Jaffna, Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J, several civil community leaders and family members of the recipients were present at the time of the distributing ceremony.
