SFHQ-J Initiative Gets School Accessories To Record 2350 Needy Students

Following a personal initiative taken by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Malaysia's Maha Karuna Buddhist Foundation offered its generosity and provided school accessories to a record 2350 needy Jaffna school children during 6 separate ceremonies in the peninsula.

Under the programme, students in Urumpirai Hindu Vidyalaya, Uduppiddy Ladies' College, Nelliaydi Central College, Innuwil R.C.T Maha Vidyalaya and Chavakachcheri Hindu College who are learning with basic facilities received school items such as books, equipment, educational aids, bags, etc in coordination with arrangements put in place by the SFHQ-J.

Ven. Butawatte Sri Saranankara Nayake Thero, Patron for Maha Karuna Buddhist Foundation (MKBF), Ven Mugunnuwela Anuruddha Thero, General Secretary, World Youth Buddhist Monks Association, Mr Jecob Chan, Chairman, MKBF, officials of the MKBF, Brigadier Ajith Elwatta, Brigadier Administration and Quartering (BAQ), SFHQ-J, Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Brigadier Tikiri Dissanayake, 523 Brigade Commander and several senior Officers were associated with distribution ceremonies in respective areas of selected schools.

Before the project got to a start, the visiting MKBF delegation from Malaysia, headed by above-mentioned two Buddhist monks called at the SFHQ-J and had a cordial meet with Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J).

During distribution ceremonies, MKBF officials, together with respective Army coordinating Officers gave away gift parcels to those children. Principals, teachers and parents were present during separate ceremonies.
