SFHQ-J Gets Veterans to Train Jaffna Youths for Cricket

A full-day cricket coaching camp for budding northern cricketers, organized by the 51 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) took place at St. Patrick's College ground in Jaffna on Sunday (24) on an initiative taken by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna.

This was organized in order to improve the skills among potential young cricketers in the peninsula and promote camaraderie among young cricket players in the Northern Province. It also helps screen exceptionally talented young players who can join the Sri Lanka Army Cricket Team in future.

The coaching camp was conducted by a group of veteran cricketers in the National Team and the Army Team that included Captain Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka Artillery, the prominent cricket star.

The programme was held with the participation of 75 Cricket players, including both batsmen and bowlers form Cricket Clubs and School Teams of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mulaitivu, Vavuniya, Mannar and other areas in the Northern Province.

Commander, SF-J, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, Brigade Commanders, Principal at St. Patrick College, Senior Officers, Mullaittivu Cricket Coach, Senior Players of Sri Lanka Army Cricket team, and All Ranks were present at the inauguration of the camp.
