SFHQ - East Marks its 20th Anniversary

The Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), celebrated its 20th Anniversary amidst religious observances and military formalities during 26 - 31 October 2023 under the guidance of Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, SF -East.

Anniversary celebrations began with multi-religious observances to invoke blessings on the Eastern Headquarters. Similarly troops attended multi-religious ceremonies and prayers at St. Mary's Cathedral, Batticaloa, Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Mosque, Kattankudy, and Murugan Kovil, Kallady. Religious ceremonies culminated with a special Bodhi Pooja conducted at Somawathiya Stupa on Sunday (29 October).

A volleyball tournament was held on Friday (27 October) with the participation of troops from affiliated Battalions. Prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners in the same evening with the objective of encouraging them for future sports activities.

On the anniversary day (31 October), Commander, SF -East was warmly welcomed and greeted in a Guard Turnout at the entrance before he was honoured in a colourful Guard of Honour in the parade ground.

Addressing the troops, he praised their selfless commitment and hard work to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the East. He further expressed his gratitude remembering all valiant war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice and those who sustained injuries.

Adding memories to the 20th anniversary, a mango sapling was also planted in the premises and Commander, SF-East posed for a few group photographs. Subsequently, he participated in an All-Rank Tea at the Private Mess and celebrations culminated with a colourful musical event held on the same day evening.

Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndu, Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, respective General Officers Commanding of 22, 23 and 24 Infantry Divisions, Major General H.W.D.C Meththananda USP ndc, Commander Forward Maintenance Area-East Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were also associated with the anniversary programme.
