SFHQ-East Contributes to Polonnaruwa Independence Day Celebration

Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) extended its best assistance to the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat for conduct of the provincial commemoration of the 70th Independence Day in Polonnaruwa Royal College grounds.

The ceremony commenced with a colourful vehicle parade displaying Sustainable Development Programmes in Polonnaruwa area. Then, the Chief Guest for the occasion, Governor for North Central Province, Mr P.B Dissanayaka hoisted the national flag, amidst of beating of Magulbera and blowing of conch shells and signaled the commencement.

Students at Polonnaruwa Royal College afterwards recited Jayamangala and Devo Vassatu Kalena stanzas and invoked blessings on the Nation. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of all patriots who scarified their lives for the Motherland.

Afterwards, a symbolic Guard of Honour saluted the Chief Guest, Hon Governor for the North Central Province, Mr. P.B Dissanayaka and a subsequent cultural display followed by a memorial programme brought the day's itinerary to an end.

Religious dignitaries, Mr. Ranjith Ariyarathne, District Secretary for Polonnaruwa, Major General Santhusitha Pananwala Commander, Security Forces – East (SF-E), state officials, senior officers of Sri Lanka Police, Civil Security Department and a host of invitees were present. A gymnastic display of the Army added variety to the day's proceedings.
