Troops of the of Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) with patronage received from Mr. Kushil Gunasekara, the chief trustee of the ‘Foundation of Goodness’ took steps to provide free dry-ration packets to temples in remote areas of Kandakadu, Damminna, Sewanapitiya and Mahawewa areas on Monday (5).
The gesture of goodwill and generosity was made possible due to coordination of Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander, Security Forces - East.
Buddhist monks, some of who are meditating and leading spiritual lives in forest monasteries and temples in remote areas, were affected due to current economic impact as devotees were not able to provide dry-rations on a regular basis. The SFHQ-E learning about those hardships took the initiative in this regard.
The consignment of those relief packs included essentials such as rice, dhal, sugar, spices, nutrients, sanitary needs, etc was distributed among those temples and monasteries by SFHQ-E troops, together with the donor.
Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander, SF-East, the donor, Mr. Kushil Gunasekara, Chief Coordinator of Civil Affairs, Colonel Rajiv Fernando, Commanding Officer, 9 Sri Lanka Artillery and Other Ranks joined the distribution programme.
