To coincide with the 16th anniversary of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), a series of events were organized at the Headquarters premises, Welikanda on Wednesday (30) on the directions of Major General Rasika Fernando, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E).
The anniversary programme assumed greater significance in conformity with military traditions where the Commander was accorded a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the camp premises by troops of the 2nd (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Signal Corps after he was warmly received by Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Samantha Silva and Brigadier Admin & Quartering Brigadier Michael Wanniarachchi.
Afterwards, the Commander planted a ‘Sandalwood’ sapling in the temple premises to signify the commemoration of the anniversary, and thereafter posed for a group photograph with the staff at the SFHQ-E.
The 16th Anniversary Day programme comprised of a customary all rank tea and a lunch at the Headquarters premises where the Commander, SF-E spared his time to interact with the troops.
Meanwhile, a tree planting drive to plant 1000 saplings at the Headquarters premises got underway on Sunday (27) as one more parallel programme of the anniversary events.
