SF – Central Troops Take Precautions against Potential Landslides

Staff Officers of the Security Force HQ– Central, together with the officials of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Badulla conducted a field visit to the landslide-threatened Maliththagolla village, located in Karandagolla, Ella on Sunday (26 Nov) in order to take necessary precautionary measures.

Staff Officers of the 11 Infantry Division were recently alerted to a landslide threat at Maliththagolla village in Karandagolla, Ella on Sunday (26 Nov) morning compelling them to quickly inform the Commander of the 112 Infantry Brigade and the DMC officials.

Afterwards, both parties planned a field visit to the area with the intention of discussing, assessing and planning necessary precautions against the potential threat in the event of any emergency.

During the visit, both parties planned to man 24-hour roadblocks along the Ella-Wellawaya road to alert travellers to vulnerable points at both ends of the village with the assistance of the Police. In addition, it was decided to fix road signs informing the public about the looming threat, lighting lamps throughout the night and put up an alarm system in the village.

Further, 09 families were advised to relocate to safer places until the torrential rains subsided.
