SF-West Troops Replenish Blood Stocks on Commander's Directive

More than 270 troops serving under the Security Force HQ-West on Tuesday (31) volunteered to donate their blood to save lives of patients in major hospitals at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya in response to a request, made to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army by the National Thalassemia Centre.

General Shavendra Silva while the blood donation drive was underway made a surprise visit to the location and saw for himself how the programme was smoothly operational with enthusiasm. He took time off to share a few thoughts with those blood donors as well as the medical staff attending to collection of blood.

Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa, Commander Security Forces - West in cooperation with the General Officer Commanding 14 Division, Brigade Commanders and Senior Officers organized the entire arrangement that enabled the Blood Bank to quickly replenish their stocks.

Medical staff of the National Blood Bank at Narahenpita, Regional Blood Bank at Ragama, Regional blood bank Kalutara and a few Army medical staffers were involved in the programme with the support of few nurses.

Major General Sujeewa Senarathyapa, Commander Security Forces - West, Major General Sanjaya Wanasingha, Adjutant General Sri Lanka Army, few Senior Officers and Other Ranks were also present at the location when the Army Chief arrived there.
