SF-KLN Launches Livelihood Promotion &;amp; Health Projects


Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) continuing its community-oriented services with the sponsorships received from various donors in the past few days distributed milking cows, chicks, baby goats, sewing machines, water pumps and cash among low-income groups.

Coordinated by Mr S. Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, the Netherlands Alumni Association of Sri Lanka offered their financial and material assistance for conduct of those community projects.

The Association, comprised of a number of retired state officials and private sector consultants under the programme gave away 175 chicks for 33 families, 15 milking cows, 6 baby goats, 2 water pumps, 2 sewing machines and a cash donation of Rs 30,000/= for a family, affected by abject poverty. The distribution ceremony took place on Saturday (4) at Kilinochchi Harmony Centre on the directions of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, SFHQ-KLN.

Meanwhile on Sunday (5) SFHQ-KLN organized a mobile eye clinic at the same place with a view to providing medical consultations and reading glasses to the people in the area.

Of 850 people who received consultations, a total of 250 after medication were given glasses, following sponsorship provided by Rotary Kandy Heritage organization, headed by Deshamanya Sunil Wekadapola and 11 more eye surgeons who attended the clinic.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, SFHQ-KLN, 571 Brigade Commander and several senior officers were present at the inaugural occasion.
