Under the directions of Commander, Security Forces - East (SF - East), Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, an initiative has been launched to facilitate language exchange between Sinhala and Tamil-speaking students in the East. The programme began a month ago with the introduction of a Tamil Language Course for Sinhala students at Nelumwewa Maha Vidyalaya, Welikanda, followed by the second phase on 30 December 2023 at R.K.M Vidyalaya Kokadichole involving 103 students learning Sinhala.
The opening ceremony, graced by Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG and Senior Officers, clergy, teachers, parents, and officials from the ‘Interfaith Coalition for Peace’ participate in the programme. The event, organized with support from the ‘Interfaith Coalition for Peace’, included distribution of school supplies, and cultural performances by students showcased their potential. Troops of 11 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment executed the event under the guidance of SF HQ-East.
