In view of fostering linguistic harmony and promoting cultural understanding, Security Forces - East (SF-East) undertook another significant initiative by organizing a six-month Tamil language course for 75 students at Kantale Central College. The inaugural ceremony of this program commenced on 10 February 2024.
Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, SF - East graced the occasion as the chief guest. Under the guidance of the Commander, SF - East, efforts have been taken to facilitate language exchange programs for Sinhala and Tamil speaking students in the area. Currently, similar endeavours are underway in Welikanda, Sewanapitiya, and Kokadicholai areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Commander, SF - East emphasized the importance of language proficiency in fostering meaningful reconciliation and societal cohesion. Furthermore, the Commander, SF - East, along with Mr. Lakpriya Bandara, Principal of Kantale Central College, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Sumithra Rathnayaka, Chairperson of the Samagi Desheeya organization, for her generous financial support, which played a pivotal role in realizing the success of the event.
Religious leaders, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Deputy Director of Zonal Education Office - Kantale, teachers, parents and students were present during the opening ceremony.
