SF-Central Troops in Hambantota & SFHQ-J Facilitate Devotees on ‘Pirith’ Chanting Train

The jointly-organized ‘Pirith’ chanting train journey, meant to invoke blessings on the country's prosperity and the forthcoming ‘New Year’ was warmly welcomed when it with more than 400 devotees arrived in Kankesanthurai late night on Saturday (26) after Major General Hemantha Bandara, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division and troops of the Hambantota-based, 12 Division offered their maximum support at the beginning of the journey at Beliatta Railway Station on Friday (25) under Direction of the Major General Keerthi Costa Commander Security Forces - Central.

12 Division troops at Beliatta Railway Station assisted to carry and place the Stupa replica inside the train before they joined religious observances, minutes before the start of the train journey.

On arrival at Kankesanthurai, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) having made elaborate arrangements accommodated all of them at Kankesanthurai Transit Camp and made several donations, inviting 160 needy people to the place on the following day (27) at Tal Sevana Holiday Resort.

Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, together with over 25 Buddhist monks in the group gave away those ration packs and 25 more special gift packs to pregnant women in the area. At the same occasion, 100 packs of stationery and sets of accessories were distributed among deserving school students to mark the conclusion of the mobile ‘Pirith’ chanting train journey.

SFHQ-J also offered alms to all the Buddhist monks at Tissa Viharaya, Kankesanthurai on Sunday (27) before they left the peninsula for Beliatta. The train journey, jointly-organized by Kaudumunna Rajamaha Viharaya at Dambadeniya, Bosath Foundation of Bujjomuwa Railway Station as an annual feature started off from Beliatta on Saturday (26) after a brief ceremony.
