The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), tirelessly engaged in construction of houses for disable War Heroes with the support of donors and Regimental Seva Vanitha Units fulfilled one more project by building a new house to a disable Gemunu Watch (GW) War Hero in Aluthwala, Pahalawela, Ambalangoda.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, accompanied by Mrs Udumalagala, Chairperson of GW Seva Vanitha Unit, senior SVAB members and Army officers ceremonially opened the new house, built at Aluthwala, Ambalangoda on Friday (30) to the disable War Hero, Staff Sergeant D.R.C Prasad of 9 GW Regiment.
Mrs Jayasuriya as Chief Guest after opening the new house gave away a special gift to the recipient. At the same time, Mrs Jayasuriya distributed separate gift parcels to all GW fellow-soldiers who worked day and night to build this house.
Lion G.R.K Chandana Balasooriya, Diyawanna Oya Lion Club and Managing Director, Buddhi Metal International Company has donated Rs. 750,000/= towards the cost for the construction. Mr Balasooriya handed over the keys to the recipient. Mrs Jayasuriya appreciating the donor’s contribution to the project presented a memento to Mr and Mrs Balasooriya who were present at the occasion.
Mrs Gayathri Mapalagama, Mrs Geetha Chandrasena, Mrs Nilangani Wehella and Jo Lanka Company Limited respectively provided electrical appliances, bathroom sets and sanitary-ware, ceiling fans and wooden windows and doors to the new house.
Mrs Jayasuriya after unveiling a plaque cut the ribbon and handed over the main door keys to the recipient as the auspicious moment struck. SVAB senior members, next of kin of disable War Hero and a gathering of well-wishers attended the occasion.
Major General S Udumalagala, Colonel of the GW Regiment, Brigadier A.A.C Ariyasinghe, 121 Brigade Commander, GW officers and other ranks, next of kin of the recipient, Seva Vanitha members and civilians in the area attended the occasion.
