Service Chiefs Among Invitees at Felicitation Ceremony

The state level ceremony to felicitate His Eminence, the Most Reverend Dr Malcom Ranjith upon his induction as a Cardinal by His Holiness the Pope Benedict XVI, was held at BMICH yesterday (6) amidst a distinguished gathering of religious dignitaries, Head of State, First Lady, Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, senior Ministers, Diplomats, Tri Service Chiefs, IGP and other invitees.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa lauded His Eminence Cardinal’s service and dedication to protect the country’s dignity during the time Sri Lanka was fighting with one of the most ruthless terrorist organizations in the world. President Rajapaksa said the elevation of His Eminence Malcom Cardinal Ranjith to the solemn and distinguished office of Cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church is an honour to the people and country at large. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during his audience with His Eminence, the new Cardinal at the BMICH extended the Army’s greetings and best wishes to him. Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal W.D.R.M.J Goonetileke, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral T.S.G Samarasinghe and several senior officers were associated with the felicitation ceremony.
