Series of 'Pinkam' at Iiyamporuwa Gangathilaka Viharaya Receive Support of Armed Forces


A series of Pinkam at Gangathilaka Viharaya Iiyamporuwa, Kotte, organized by Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Sri Lanka Army Buddhist Association, Navy, Air Force, the Police and the Dayaka Sabha under the aegis of Ven. Aluthnuwara Sumanatissa Nayake Thero, Temple Incumbent, were inaugurated to mark several openings on Tuesday (18) evening with the participation of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, bringing the series of events to a climax, is scheduled to open the temple’s new archway (Wahalkada), new shrine hall (Budu Medura), new Bodhi Prakaraya and the new road network on Thursday (20).

The Pinkam (June 18-20) commenced with the chanting of Thunthis Pae Pirith plus Bodhi Poojas, Mal Poojas and Gilanpasa Poojas at the illuminated Vihara premises. An alms-giving to 100 Buddhist monks takes place, the following morning. Separate Peraheras to mark the event paraded along the streets to coincide with the opening ceremonies.

Speaker, Hon Chamal Rajapaksa, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentarians, State Officials and a large gathering of devotees and members of the Dayaka Sabha are expected to attend these arrangements. (Photo Courtesy : MoD)
