SENIOR ARMY OFFICERS ATTEND AIDS SYMPOSIUM

As part of its ongoing health awareness programmes of the Sri Lanka Army, a seminar on prevention of HIV/AIDS was conducted for Senior Officers at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo on 28 (Friday) morning.

The purpose of organizing this seminar was to create awareness, enlighten them on its consequences and explore possibilities of curbing spread of deadly HIV/AIDS virus within the Army as an outfit.

Dr. Mrs. Ayanthi Abeysekara, Director, National STD/AIDS Prevention Programme, during her presentation briefed the status quo as regards the deadly syndrome whilst Dr. Kulasiri Buddhakorala, Venereal Consultant shared views on the preventive side of it.

Major General (Dr.) K.D.P.Perera, Medical Advisor to the Sri Lanka Army welcomed the move. Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Susil Chandrapala, representing the Army Commander, added his views to the forum. Col (Dr) S.H.Munasinghe too contributed to the sessions.

Col Munasinghe delivering his talk on “HIV/AIDS and the Military” shared the importance of curbing the spread of the syndrome among Military personnel.
