Secy Defence Observes New Operation Room at New Army HQ

General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Secretary to State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management at the invitation of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (29) observed the newly-digitalized operational aspects in the Operation Room of the Directorate of Operations at the Army Headquarters.

The state-of-the-art new Operation Room, a conceptual initiative of General Shavendra Silva is well equipped with most modern signal and digitally-advanced technical accessories, through which all ground level troop locations and deployments could be spotted and necessary instructions transmitted within seconds in the event of any emergency or natural disaster.

The day's special guest to the location, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) afterwards received a comprehensive description of the functional aspect of the new operational wing, its most modern accessories and watched several related presentations, submitted by the Colonel, Directorate of Information Technology at the Army HQ, Lieutenant Colonel R.C Wijakoon, after Brigadier Shantha Ranaweera, Director Operations at the Army HQ delivered welcome remarks.

During the same occasion, General Shavendra Silva provided necessary instructions to responsible Officers on hand and shared a couple of thoughts with other aspects of the Operation Room before General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), together with the Army Chief had a close look at the adjoining planning section of the new Operation Room.

General Shavendra Silva welcomed the visiting Secretary Defence on arrival after a drive-past Guard Turnout saluted the Secretary Defence and accompanied him to the new Operation Room, together with a few Senior Officers, including the Chief of Staff, Major General Senarath Bandara.

Brigadier Shantha Ranaweera, Director Operations at the Army HQ at first received the Army Chief, General Shavendra Silva on arrival at the location.

Major General Asoka Peiris, Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, several senior officers at the Directorate also joined the day's event.
