Secy Defence & Army Commander Visit Injured Army Personnel in Hospital

Attaching greater significance and appreciation to the commitment, displayed by Army personnel in the performance of their challenging duty roles in the past couple of weeks, regardless of threats, posed to their own lives, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Secretary Defence, together with Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army took time off and called at the Colombo Army Hospital this morning (15) to inquire into the well-being of those Army personnel injured in the most recent violence around the Parliament complex.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army along with Brigadier Crishantha Fernando, Director General Health Services and Brigadier Jude Perera, Director Maintenance and Management at Colombo Army Hospital received the visiting Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) at the entrance to the Colombo Army Hospital complex.

Both Secretary Defence and Commander of the Army afterwards visited the Wards where a few more than two dozens of injured War Heroes are still under medical treatment. Talking to them, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) closely inquired into the nature of their injury and health developments as well as the healing process.

“Your obedience to the command as well as your tireless duty roles, no doubt assisted enormously to restore law and order in society at the expense of your lives and such dedicated roles could only be carried out by disciplined soldiers like you as all of you very evidently proved in the past couple of weeks”, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) told a couple of them lying in the Ward.

General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage afterwards met each of them in the Ward and wished them speedy recovery before they shared few thoughts with medical authorities attending to those wounded Army personnel inquiring into the needs of those injured Army personnel.
