Security Force Headquarters -Wanni expanding its community-oriented services further opened the Army-built 13th new house under its housing project in Ranpathvila, Tanthirimale on Thursday (19).
On the instructions of Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, Commander Security Forces-Wanni, construction of this house was undertaken by troops of the 5 Sri Lanka National Guard under the guidance of the Commander 212 Brigade Colonel Anil Peiris. The General Officer Commanding 21 Division Major General Kumar Jayapathirane supervised the entire project before it was ceremonially vested with the beneficiary, Mr Ajantha Wickramaarachchi and his three-member family.
Mr Ajantha Wickramaarachchi with his three children was undergoing a lot of hardships without a shelter for them to reside when their plight was brought to the troops' notice. Setting an example to others, a philanthropist, resident in Australia, Mr Dhamith Kahawe offered his generous sponsorship to construct this new house for this destitute family following coordination, made by the Commander 212 Brigade, Colonel Anil Peiris through his personal contacts.
The newly-constructed house is comprised of all facilities such as sitting area, dining room, bedrooms, etc and a stock of essential household items, electric appliances and furniture, worth over Rs. 100,000.00 were also gifted to them during the simple opening ceremony. In addition, the beneficiary was twice blessed to get a modern electric tube-well, worth over Rs 1 lakh.
The opening ceremony prioritized the conduct of religious observances and keys to the newly-constructed house was auspiciously handed over to the underprivileged family by the General Officer Commanding, 21 Division Major General Kumar Jayapathirane who graced the brief ceremony as the Chief Guest.
