In celebration of the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna organised a New Year festival for civilians in Jaffna at Doreyappa Stadium on 06 April 2025.
The event was conducted under the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, aiming to foster community spirit, reconciliation and mutual respect among diverse communities. The festival highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, military, and civilians in building lasting peace and ensuring the social wellbeing of all citizens. It featured a series of traditional New Year games and cultural events that created joyful moments for all participants and strengthened bonds among the various communities.
By hosting the festival in the culturally significant and diverse city of Jaffna, the Sri Lanka Army proved its continued commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence. The festival served as an exciting platform for promoting ethnic harmony, enabling Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities to come together in celebration, breaking barriers and cultivating friendships through shared cultural experiences.
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces - Jaffna, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr M. Pradeepan, District Secretary of Jaffna, participated as the Guest of Honour, with many other distinguished civil and military dignitaries also attending the event.
Meanwhile, under the guidance of Major General B.G.S Fernando USP Hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, the troops of 55 Infantry Division organised the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival on 19 April 2025 at the Kilinochchi Central College sports ground.
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
