Security in Deep South Strengthened as Two More Bodies Emerge

TISSAMAHARAMA : POLICE IN COOPERATION with troops stationed in deep down south surrounding THAMBARAWEWA, TISSAMAHARAMA area after stepping up security network by establishing more Police guard points confirmed their search and surveillance as two more dead bodies of civilians hacked to death emerged from a chena cultivation area, six kilometers away from OSUVINNA Thursday (8) morning.

The area became tense following the recovery of three more dead civilians from THAMBARAWEWA area on Tuesday (6), prompting the Police and the troops to comb the area in search of unidentified brutal killers of these innocent civilians who were engaged in chena farming.

Police and the troops however do not rule out any possible LTTE involvement after they were driven from the eastern region.

Yet, it is too early to come to a definite conclusion, the local Police said.

Thursday\'s (8) recovery of the two dead civilians, R.M. ABEYWARDANA (55) and G.M.PADMASIRI (54) triggered more unrest among the villagers who demanded intensified security arrangements around their remote villages.

New Police posts have been established in NIMALAWA, BABILAWA, UDDAGANDARA, KORAGAHAULPOTHA, RUWANAWEWA, RANMINITHANNA, PALATUPANA and MURAPALA areas.

Police and the troops are conducting further investigations in the area. The remains of these two civilians have been removed to DEBARAWEWA hospital for post-mortem and further investigations.
