Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Arrives on Goodwill Visit

Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Mr Nikolai Patrushev on an invitation from the Ministry of Defence arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (22) on a three-day long visit. At the airport, General Kamal Gunarathne (Rtd), Secretary Defence, together with General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugethenna, Commander of the Navy, Air Marshal Sudarshan Pathirana, Commander of the Air Force extended a warm welcome to the delegate who is directly responsible to the President of the Russian Federation.

Just a few hours after his visit, Mr Nikolai Patrushev paid a courtesy call on HE the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa along with a Russian delegation before he ensues extensive discussions at the Ministry of Defence with General Kamal Gunarathne (Rtd), Secretary Defence this afternoon (22). Towards the end of the interactions at the Ministry of Defence, he left compliments in the Visitors' Book and exchanged mementos as tokens of goodwill.

Since 2008, Mr Patrushev has been the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, a consultative body of the President that works out his decisions on national security affairs.
