Secretary Defence Reviews Last Minute National Victory Day Parade Arrangements

With a view to fine-tuning and reviewing the last-minute arrangements, connected to the National Victory Day parade (May 19), Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, together with Chief of Defence Staff and tri-service Commanders, IGP  and  Director General (DG) Civil Defence Force, arrived at Galle Face Green Thursday (17) morning.

Mr Rajapaksa, service commanders, IGP and other security chiefs and senior military officers received a briefing on the conduct of the National Victory Day parade from organizers at the occasion. He inspected the flow of the entire parade and gave necessary instructions for improvement before he left the venue.

National Victory Day parade that coincides with the National War Heroes month, is dedicated to the memory of all War Heroes of the Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force who selflessly defended the territorial integrity and eliminated the ruthless terrorism that plagued this country for over 30 years in May 2009.

The military parade, presented by troops of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Civil Defence Force, is held for the third successive year, marking the third anniversary of the elimination of terrorism from this resplendent island-nation.

Valour, leadership, comradeship and sacrifice, displayed by fifteen valiant War Heroes including two from the Navy and the Air Force, are to be posthumously honoured by conferring the highest gallantry award, ‘Parama Weera Vibushanaya’ during the ceremony on Saturday (19).
