Secretary Defence Arrives at 'Abimansala-2' Site On the Eve of its Grand Opening

South-based  "Abimansala-2" wellness resort complex, built in a serene environment spread over a lush 10 acre land, surrounded by waterways and  is comprised of seven villas, five cottages, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy facilities, medical ward, swimming-pool, gymnasium, medical laboratory, dining hall, kitchen, indigenous medicine unit and residential quarters for staff, is set to inaugurate its noble mission for provision of lifelong care for another set of dependent War Heroes  on Saturday (10).

Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapksa, the driving force behind the success of the entire project  made a surprise visit to the project site  at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya on Tuesday (6) and saw for himself how Army Engineers and Soldiers were giving the final touches to the mammoth construction, just three days ahead of its auspicious opening by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The 'Abimansala-2' established in line with the 'Mahinda Chintana' as envisaged under " protective homes" clause, will house about 50 totally disable War Heroes of the Southern Province for lifetime rehabilitation, care, rest and recreation. Now functional Attidiya 'Mihindu Seth Medura' and Anuradhapura ' Abimansala-1' take care of more than 100 such War Heroes while allowing their beloved ones to visit these resorts as often as possible.

The project is funded by the 'Brave Hearts' fund of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Sri Lanka Army.

During Tuesday's visit,  Mr Rajapaksa, together with the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya closely examined each and every wing of the new complex on the eve of its grand opening on Saturday (10) and shared a couple of views with those working there.
 
Commending the work that has been effectively completed, he gave necessary directions to the authorities in connection with Saturday's programme and other arrangements.

Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya,  and senior military officers were present during Mr Rajapaksa's visit.
