Second Phase Starts to Facilitate Partially Built Ranaviru Houses


Under the second stage of the Housing Scheme introduced to complete the partially built houses of War Heroes, over 322 service personnel were awarded with the housing material facility today at a function held at the Defence Services College Auditorium in Colombo on Wednesday (17th Dec) under the patronage of Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit (MoDSVU).

Accordingly 198 soldiers, 74 sailors and 50 air-force personnel received housing materials for each worth of seven hundred and fifty thousand Rupees.

Speaking at the event Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake mentioned that, the President, Secretary Defence, MoDSVU and other similar associations including respective Seva Vanitha Units of the armed forces have performed remarkably in uplifting the living standard of valiant war heroes in comparison to the other countries. This gracious process would be continued in future too, he also noted.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Jagath Jayasuriya accompanied by Mrs. Jayasuriya, tri-Forces Commanders, Chairpersons of the Tri-Forces SVU's, MoDSVU Vice President Mrs. I Rathnayake, Additional Secretary (Defence) Mr. S Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary Mrs. Damayanthi Balasuriya, Military Liaison Officer Major General (Rtd) Palitha Fernando and Senior military officials were also present at the event.
