STUDENTS in island-wide government schools are to receive concessionary rates for entry into the forthcoming Army 60th Anniversary Exhibition at BMICH premises beginning 3rd October 2009, it was announced Friday (18) at the Army Headquarters during a media briefing, headed by Army Chief of Staff Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe.
An entry ticket for this Exhibition of educational importance too is priced at Rs.50/= but entry tickets for students are priced at Rs.25/= (half of the price). Requests for these concessions can be made to the Army Headquarters through respective schools. Heads of schools and responsible authorities can reach Telephone Nos. 077-2614219 (Colonel Sirinaga) and 077-7237133 (Colonel Alawatta) for reservation arrangements and entrance facilities. Exhibition will be open for public, the first day 3rd October from 12.00 noon until 10.00 p.m. and on all other days (3-7 October) from10.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m.
This mega Army Exhibition that depicts Army’s evolution in the past six decades, its expansion and roles and more importantly its unparalleled achievements and victories against world’s most ruthless terrorist outfit will also feature a wide assortment of military equipment, old uniforms and other paraphernalia, in addition to the display of captured LTTE equipment, arms and ammunition.
The Army Tattoo, popularly known as the Search Light Tattoo (Oct 17-23) at Kettarama stadium as the most attractive and the final phase of the celebratory programme will be open to the public between 5.30 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. on all seven days.
This mega display will highlight Army heroism, gallantry, acrobatics and an assortment of undisputed skills of the Army that have now reached international standards of professionalism. Speedy fixing of vehicles and instant construction of temporary bridges, Special skills’ show of elite Commando units and Special Forces, inclusive of obstacle crossings, dog shows, model simulation attacks, parachute jumps, cultural shows, women’s corps display, climbing of high rises and a host of other exclusive talents.
The Tattoo will be open to the public between 5.30-10.00 p.m. on all seven days and tickets are available at Cargills Food City outlets in Nawala, Nugegoda, Gampaha, Negombo, Kotehena, Maharagama, Panadura, Galle, Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and on Steple Street and Park Road. Tickets are also available at entrance gates. Tickets are priced at Rs.200/=, Rs.500/=, Rs. 1000/=, Rs.2000/=.
